The Hills District spreads north-west from North Rocks, Carlingford and Baulkham Hills through Castle Hill, Bella Vista and Norwest to Kellyville, Rouse Hill and the Box Hill growth area. North of Castle Hill it opens into semi-rural Dural, Glenhaven, Kenthurst, Annangrove and Glenorie. Castle Hill and Norwest are the main centres, and the Metro North West line runs through the middle.

M2 Hills Motorway
Tolled motorway from Baulkham Hills and Bella Vista toward Macquarie Park and the city, with heavy peak flows.
M7 Westlink
Tolled orbital motorway on the western edge, linking the M2 with the M4 and M5 corridors.
Windsor Road
Historic route from Parramatta through Baulkham Hills, Kellyville and Rouse Hill toward Windsor.
Old Windsor Road
Parallel route past Bella Vista and Kellyville, alongside the North-West T-way.
Old Northern Road
Runs from Baulkham Hills through Castle Hill, Glenhaven and Dural north to Glenorie and on toward Wisemans Ferry.
Showground Road
Links Castle Hill with Norwest and the Hills Showground precinct; busy around the metro station.
Pennant Hills Road
Carries traffic through Carlingford between Parramatta, the M2 and the northern suburbs, including many trucks.
Getting to work and around the region
Many Hills residents drive, heading along the M2 toward Macquarie Park and the city or south to Parramatta on Windsor Road and Old Windsor Road. Many commuters now use the metro stations at Castle Hill, Norwest, Bella Vista and Kellyville, and their car parks and drop-off zones are busy in peak hours.
Trucks and heavy vehicles. Trucks use Pennant Hills Road and the M2 and M7, and construction traffic is common around the growth areas of Box Hill, Rouse Hill and North Kellyville.
