How it works

How it works

Three steps: tell us what happened, we look at where your claim is up to, and — only if you want it — we point you to the help it needs: an independent CTP lawyer when your case calls for one, and doctors and allied health for treatment.
  1. 1. Tell us what happened

Use the free claim check (about 3 minutes online) or call us. Tell us when and how the accident happened, what's happened with your claim so far, how your injuries are affecting you, and who's treating you (if anyone). You don't need a claim number, and it's fine if you don't know the insurer yet — we can help you work that out.

  2. 2. We look at where it's up to

We look at what you've told us against how the NSW CTP scheme generally works — time limits, whether you're likely covered, whether you're getting the treatment and medical evidence your claim needs, and whether anything has come up that a lawyer should look at. This is general information, not legal or medical advice, and it isn't a guarantee of any outcome.

  3. 3. The right help — you choose

If your case calls for legal help, we'll offer to introduce you to an independent, specialist CTP lawyer; if it doesn't, we'll say so. If you need treatment or medical evidence, we can refer you to a doctor experienced with CTP claims or to allied health. You decide whether to go ahead — no obligation, no pressure, and the claim check costs nothing either way.

What kind of help?

The help your claim actually needs

An independent CTP lawyer — when your case calls for it

A specialist motor accident lawyer tends to matter when something goes wrong or the stakes rise, for example:

  • Your claim has been denied
  • The insurer says your injury is a threshold injury and you disagree
  • Weekly payments or treatment have been cut off
  • Fault is disputed
  • You've received an offer
  • You may have a damages claim, a serious injury, or a family member has died

Many claims never need a lawyer. If yours doesn't look like it does, we'll say so.

Do I need a lawyer?

Doctors and allied health — for treatment and evidence

Almost every claim runs on good medical care and clear medical records — the evidence that shows what your injuries are and how they affect you. We can refer you to:

  • A doctor experienced with CTP claims — for diagnosis, a treatment plan and your Certificate of Fitness
  • Physiotherapy, psychology, exercise physiology and similar allied health

Every doctor and allied health provider is independent and responsible for their own treatment. We can't promise any treatment will be approved or funded by the insurer.

Free to use, and upfront about referrals

CTP Lawyer is free to use. You never pay us anything for a claim check or for a referral, and you're never obliged to use any lawyer, doctor or allied health provider we refer you to — you can walk away at any point, no explanation needed. You're also free to keep your own GP, treating team or lawyer instead.

We'll tell you if a provider we refer you to is connected with us, before you decide anything — so you know exactly who you're dealing with, and why.

If you do engage a lawyer, they'll explain their own costs to you in writing. Treatment is a matter between you, your provider and the CTP insurer, which generally pays for treatment and care that is reasonable and necessary for your accident injuries, within the benefit periods that apply to you. The insurer decides what it approves, and its decisions can be reviewed.
