If you've been hurt in a car accident in Norwest, the first few weeks matter more than most people expect. Get medical care, report the crash to police and lodge your CTP claim, ideally within 28 days. After that, the right help depends on your claim. Doctors and allied health handle treatment and the Certificate of Fitness. An independent CTP lawyer helps when the case calls for it. Plenty of claims don't need one at all.

After a crash in Norwest: the local picture
Norwest Business Park is one of Western Sydney's largest commercial precincts, with Norwest Boulevard, Old Windsor Road, and the M7 shaping its traffic flow. For Norwest residents, a CTP claim generally starts with statutory benefits for weekly payments and treatment costs; some people may later be able to claim common law damages as well.
Whether you went to hospital from Norwest or saw a GP the next day, the first medical record matters. Keep copies and make sure the crash is written down as the cause.
If it would be easier to talk in a language other than English, CTP Assist can set up an interpreter for your claim, wherever you live in or near Norwest. Its number is 1300 656 919.
The Hills: the wider area
Westmead Hospital is the main major hospital for the Hills, with Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital closer for the eastern side around Cherrybrook and West Pennant Hills. Norwest Business Park and Castle Towers draw workers and shoppers from across the north-west, and the rural fringe brings trucks, horse floats and slower farm vehicles onto roads like Old Northern Road.

Your first steps after a crash
- Your safety comes first. Get clear of moving traffic if you can do so safely, and call 000 for police and an ambulance if anyone is hurt.
- A police report gives your claim an independent record of when and where the crash happened. Ask for the event number and file it with your other claim papers.
- Ask your doctor for a Certificate of Fitness. It records your injuries and what work you can manage, and the insurer relies on it.
- Get names and numbers from witnesses before they leave. Photos of the vehicles, number plates and road layout are worth taking if you can do it safely.
- Work out which CTP insurer to claim with. It's usually the insurer of the vehicle at fault, and CTP Assist on 1300 656 919 can help you identify it.
- Write down how the injuries affect your days, your sleep and your work. A simple diary, kept from the start, helps if the insurer questions how you're affected.
- Not sure whether you need a lawyer? A free claim check helps you decide. Many claims don't need one, and we'll say so if yours doesn't.
Key CTP deadlines
The clock starts on the day of the crash. Lodge within 28 days if you can, so weekly payments can be back-paid. A claim made up to 3 months later is still possible, though payments may only begin on the date you claim. Damages claims generally have a 3-year limit; lodge by the 2-year mark if you want weekly payments to be able to run past it. As always, it's general information, not legal advice, so check your own dates. More on CTP claim time limits.
Treatment and the medical side of your claim
Not everyone needs a lawyer after a crash, but most people need good treatment. We can connect you with doctors experienced with CTP claims for the Certificate of Fitness, and with allied health for rehabilitation. The insurer generally pays for reasonable and necessary treatment within your benefit period, and we'll tell you if a provider we refer you to is connected with us.

Frequently asked questions
The sooner the better. The insurer generally needs your claim within 28 days for weekly payments to be back-paid to the day after the accident. Claims made later, up to 3 months after the accident, are still possible, but payments may then start from the claim date. Common law damages claims generally have to be made within 3 years. Your own dates may differ, so check them early.
Three main kinds. Doctors experienced with CTP claims, for diagnosis and the Certificate of Fitness. Allied health, such as physiotherapy, psychology and exercise physiology, for treatment and recovery. And an independent lawyer experienced in CTP claims when the case calls for one, for example a refused claim, a threshold dispute or a damages claim. Many people only need the first two.
Yes. Treatment and the medical evidence it creates are central to most claims. We can point you to doctors experienced with CTP claims for diagnosis and the Certificate of Fitness, and to physiotherapy, psychology or exercise physiology. The insurer generally pays for treatment that is reasonable and necessary within the benefit periods, and it decides each request.
Not from us. The claim check is free whatever you decide. If you choose to work with an independent CTP lawyer, legal costs in CTP claims are regulated, and for some disputes they can't be recovered at all. Many motor accident lawyers offer no win, no fee arrangements. Ask for a written costs disclosure before you agree to anything.
No. The claim check is free and there's no obligation to take any next step. CTP Lawyer is a free NSW service, not a law firm. We look at where your claim is up to and explain the options in plain English. If you're connected with an independent CTP lawyer, any legal costs are between you and them, and should be set out in writing first.
Generally, the NSW CTP scheme applies where the crash happened in NSW. If it happened in another state or territory, that place's own scheme usually applies instead, though the details can be complicated, so say where it happened. The date matters too. Accidents from 1 December 2017 fall under the Motor Accident Injuries Act 2017, and earlier ones under the 1999 Act.
Get medical care and tell your doctor the crash caused your injuries. Tell police and keep the event number handy. Swap details with the other driver, photograph everything and note any witnesses. Start a folder for receipts and certificates. Then lodge your CTP claim, aiming for 28 days. If anything feels uncertain, a free claim check can help you prioritise.
Nothing important changes. The same NSW CTP scheme covers the M4 and Old Northern Road alike, and the claim is handled by the CTP insurer of the relevant vehicle, wherever it happened. You can see your usual GP in the Hills for treatment and the Certificate of Fitness, and deal with the insurer by phone, email and online. Keep any police event number and lodge within 28 days if you can.
