The Central Coast lies between the Hawkesbury River and Lake Macquarie, with Gosford and Wyong as its two main centres. Brisbane Water and the Woy Woy peninsula are in the south, the beaches run from Avoca and Terrigal to The Entrance and Toukley, and Tuggerah Lakes, Warnervale and the northern growth areas sit around Wyong. Mangrove Mountain, Peats Ridge and Kulnura form a rural hinterland to the west.

M1 Pacific Motorway
Main route between Sydney and Newcastle, with interchanges at Kariong, Somersby, Ourimbah and Tuggerah; busy with commuters and holiday traffic.
Central Coast Highway
Links Kariong and Gosford with Erina, Wamberal and the northern beaches, carrying heavy local traffic.
Pacific Highway

Getting to work and around the region
Many Central Coast residents commute to Sydney, either by train from Woy Woy, Gosford, Tuggerah or Wyong, or by car on the M1 over the Hawkesbury River. These are long trips that start early, and the motorway and station car parks are busiest on weekday mornings and evenings.
Motorcycling. The Old Pacific Highway between Somersby and the Hawkesbury River, and the ridge roads around Mangrove Mountain and Peats Ridge, are popular weekend riding routes.
