If you've been hurt in a car accident in Empire Bay, the first few weeks matter more than most people expect. Get medical care, report the crash to police and lodge your CTP claim, ideally within 28 days. After that, the right help depends on your claim. Doctors and allied health handle treatment and the Certificate of Fitness. An independent CTP lawyer helps when the case calls for it. Plenty of claims don't need one at all.

After a crash in Empire Bay: the local picture
Empire Bay is a small waterfront village on the southern arm of Brisbane Water, west of Kincumber. Empire Bay Drive is the main road, running from Kincumber past Bensville to the village and on toward the Bouddi Peninsula. Gosford Hospital is about 20 minutes away.
If the crash happened in a car park or outside a shopping centre in Empire Bay, record the exact spot and ask about footage early. Off-road locations like these are often still covered, but check.
If it would be easier to talk in a language other than English, CTP Assist can set up an interpreter for your claim, wherever you live in or near Empire Bay. Its number is 1300 656 919.
Central Coast: the wider area
Holiday traffic is a big part of Central Coast driving, with Sydney visitors heading for Terrigal, The Entrance, Avoca and the Brisbane Water foreshores on weekends and school holidays. Hinterland roads such as the Old Pacific Highway draw riders and day-trippers. Gosford Hospital is the main public hospital, with Wyong Hospital at Hamlyn Terrace serving the north.

Pick the question closest to yours
The pages below are grouped three ways: the car accident and CTP claim itself, working with a solicitor, and broader compensation questions. Each answers one question for people in Empire Bay. If none quite fits, the free claim check sorts it out with you.
Car accident & CTP
Questions about the claim itself: lodging with the right insurer, who was at fault, what the scheme pays, a refusal, and crashes on a bike or on foot.
- CTP lawyerA free claim check first, then an independent CTP lawyer if your claim calls for one.
- CTP claimsMost people run a CTP claim themselves. Here's how, from the form to the case manager.
- Car accident lawyerDrivers and passengers: who caused the crash, and what fault changes in a NSW claim.
- Car accident claimInjury, car damage or a driver who drove off? Which claim you have, and where it goes.

Solicitors
For people engaging a solicitor: what happens after you sign, how a motor accident file moves from start to finish, and what to check before you commit.
- Compensation solicitorEngaging a solicitor: the first meeting, what to bring and the costs documents.
- Personal injury solicitorChecking a solicitor, giving instructions, and the decisions that stay yours.
- Car accident solicitorThe stages of a CTP damages file, the timing rules, and what you do at each step.
General compensation
Broader questions: which kind of claim you have, keeping evidence of the injury, what a serious or permanent injury means, and the costs questions worth asking.
- Compensation lawyerNot sure what you can claim, or who handles it? Start with the kind of claim you have.
- Personal injury lawyerLooking after the injury, keeping good notes, and choosing legal help with care.
- Injury compensation lawyerNerve damage, tears, fractures or brain injury: what a serious injury means for a claim.
- No win no fee lawyerCosts terms explained, never promised. The questions to ask before you sign anything.
After the crash: seven practical steps
- Check on everyone involved, yourself included. If anyone is injured, call 000 straight away and follow the operator's instructions until help arrives.
- If police attend, note the officer's name and station. If they don't, report the crash yourself promptly and keep the event number safe.
- Get medical care, even if you feel fine. Some injuries, such as whiplash, can take a day or two to show, and early records help your claim.
- Get names and numbers from witnesses before they leave. Photos of the vehicles, number plates and road layout are worth taking if you can do it safely.
- Work out which CTP insurer to claim with. It's usually the insurer of the vehicle at fault, and CTP Assist on 1300 656 919 can help you identify it.
- Keep a folder for everything: certificates, receipts, letters from the insurer, time off work and travel to treatment. Good records make every later step easier.
- Not sure whether you need a lawyer? A free claim check helps you decide. Many claims don't need one, and we'll say so if yours doesn't.
Time limits to know
To have weekly payments back-paid to the day after the accident, the insurer generally needs your claim within 28 days. You can still claim up to 3 months after the accident, but payments may start from the date you claim. A common law damages claim must generally be made within 3 years, and within 2 years if you want weekly payments to continue beyond 2 years. Treat this as general information, not legal advice. More on CTP claim time limits.
Treatment and the medical side of your claim
Not everyone needs a lawyer after a crash, but most people need good treatment. We can connect you with doctors experienced with CTP claims for the Certificate of Fitness, and with allied health for rehabilitation. The insurer generally pays for reasonable and necessary treatment within your benefit period, and we'll tell you if a provider we refer you to is connected with us.

Frequently asked questions
Often not. Many CTP claims for statutory benefits run without a lawyer. Legal help tends to matter when a claim is refused, the insurer says your injury is threshold and you disagree, payments stop, fault is disputed, an offer arrives or a damages claim may be open. SIRA's free CTP Legal Advisory Service can also help with some statutory benefits questions.
In many cases, yes. If you're in hospital or finding it hard to manage, a partner, parent or adult child can start the conversation for you. We may need your consent before discussing your details, and the insurer will have its own rules about who it can speak to. For a child's claim, a parent or guardian usually acts for them.
You tell us what happened, when, and where your claim is up to: whether you've lodged, what the insurer has said and how your treatment is going. We check the time limits that apply and whether anything is in dispute. Then we explain your options and point you to the help that fits, whether that's doctors and allied health, an independent CTP lawyer or simply the next form.
Most insurer decisions can be reviewed. You can generally ask for an internal review within 28 days of receiving the decision, and the insurer usually has 14 days to respond, or longer for some matters. If you still disagree, you can apply to the Personal Injury Commission. A refused claim is one of the situations where an independent CTP lawyer is often worth talking to.
The sooner the better. The insurer generally needs your claim within 28 days for weekly payments to be back-paid to the day after the accident. Claims made later, up to 3 months after the accident, are still possible, but payments may then start from the claim date. Common law damages claims generally have to be made within 3 years. Your own dates may differ, so check them early.
Not at first, in most cases. If the crash is also a work injury, you generally need to claim workers compensation through your employer's insurer first. That is a different scheme from CTP, and CTP statutory benefits are generally not payable where workers compensation is available. You may still be able to claim damages from the at-fault driver's CTP insurer, so get advice. Commuting crashes depend on the facts. Tell us about the trip and we can point you to the right help.
Not from us. The claim check is free whatever you decide. If you choose to work with an independent CTP lawyer, legal costs in CTP claims are regulated, and for some disputes they can't be recovered at all. Many motor accident lawyers offer no win, no fee arrangements. Ask for a written costs disclosure before you agree to anything.
Neither. Claims aren't handled by region. The NSW CTP scheme covers the whole state, and the claim goes to the insurer of the relevant vehicle, which deals with you by phone, email and online. You can see your own GP on the Coast for treatment and the Certificate of Fitness, and our claim check works the same way wherever you are. Try to lodge within 28 days of the crash.
