Whether the crash in North Bondi was a small bump or something serious, the early steps are much the same: get checked, report it, swap details and claim within 28 days if you can. What differs is the help you need next, and a free claim check sorts that out. For many people it's doctors and allied health. For some it's an independent CTP lawyer. You don't pay for the check either way.

Around North Bondi: roads, hospitals and getting around
North Bondi sits at the northern end of the famous beach in the Eastern Suburbs near Bondi Beach and Dover Heights. If a CTP insurer's decision doesn't seem right to you (a denied claim, stopped payments or a 'threshold injury' label), you can generally ask for an internal review, and people in North Bondi can talk it through with us by phone first.
If you were hurt on Campbell Parade or Military Road, the location goes on your claim form. Note it now, along with the time and the weather, while it's still fresh.
Public transport such as Bondi Junction station and bus stops on Campbell Parade and Military Road can make it easier to reach treatment if you can't drive after a crash. Keep receipts for travel to medical care and ask the insurer what it will consider.
Eastern Suburbs: the wider area
This is one of Sydney's most densely settled areas, with apartments and terraces packed between the harbour and the beaches. There is no rail beyond Bondi Junction, so buses and the light rail to Randwick and Kingsford carry much of the load, and roads such as Anzac Parade, Old South Head Road and New South Head Road stay busy well outside peak hours.

What to do after a car accident in North Bondi
- Make the scene safe if you can. Switch on your warning lights, move out of traffic if it's safe to do so, and call 000 if anyone is hurt or trapped.
- If police attend, note the officer's name and station. If they don't, report the crash yourself promptly and keep the event number safe.
- See a GP or go to hospital as soon as you can, and say the injuries came from a motor accident so it's written down as the cause.
- If the other vehicle drove off, note anything you can about it and tell police promptly. A claim against the Nominal Defendant may still be possible.
- Lodge your claim through the Service NSW online form or with the insurer. Aim for 28 days so weekly payments can be back-paid to the day after the crash.
- Keep copies of every form you send and every letter you receive. Note the dates, because review deadlines, often 28 days, run from when you get a decision.
- If anything is unclear or in dispute, ask for a free claim check by phone or online. There's no obligation, and many people find they can manage the claim themselves.
Time limits to know
To have weekly payments back-paid to the day after the accident, the insurer generally needs your claim within 28 days. You can still claim up to 3 months after the accident, but payments may start from the date you claim. A common law damages claim must generally be made within 3 years, and within 2 years if you want weekly payments to continue beyond 2 years. Treat this as general information, not legal advice. More on CTP claim time limits.
Getting the right treating team
A doctor experienced with CTP claims can diagnose your injuries, complete the Certificate of Fitness and set a treatment plan. We can point you to one, and to allied health such as physiotherapy, psychology and exercise physiology. The insurer generally pays for treatment that is reasonable and necessary, within the benefit periods that apply to you.

Frequently asked questions
The sooner the better. The insurer generally needs your claim within 28 days for weekly payments to be back-paid to the day after the accident. Claims made later, up to 3 months after the accident, are still possible, but payments may then start from the claim date. Common law damages claims generally have to be made within 3 years. Your own dates may differ, so check them early.
No, and you don't need one. The claim check happens by phone and online, so people in North Bondi get the same help as anyone else in NSW without travelling. If an independent CTP lawyer would help with your claim, the lawyer you speak with can generally work with you by phone, email and video as well.
Get medical care and tell your doctor the crash caused your injuries. Tell police and keep the event number handy. Swap details with the other driver, photograph everything and note any witnesses. Start a folder for receipts and certificates. Then lodge your CTP claim, aiming for 28 days. If anything feels uncertain, a free claim check can help you prioritise.
Generally, the NSW CTP scheme applies where the crash happened in NSW. If it happened in another state or territory, that place's own scheme usually applies instead, though the details can be complicated, so say where it happened. The date matters too. Accidents from 1 December 2017 fall under the Motor Accident Injuries Act 2017, and earlier ones under the 1999 Act.
Not at first, in most cases. If the crash is also a work injury, you generally need to claim workers compensation through your employer's insurer first. That is a different scheme from CTP, and CTP statutory benefits are generally not payable where workers compensation is available. You may still be able to claim damages from the at-fault driver's CTP insurer, so get advice. Commuting crashes depend on the facts. Tell us about the trip and we can point you to the right help.
Most insurer decisions can be reviewed. You can generally ask for an internal review within 28 days of receiving the decision, and the insurer usually has 14 days to respond, or longer for some matters. If you still disagree, you can apply to the Personal Injury Commission. A refused claim is one of the situations where an independent CTP lawyer is often worth talking to.
Yes. CTP Assist, run by SIRA, can arrange an interpreter for your claim on 1300 656 919. It can also connect you with the free CTP Legal Advisory Service for statutory benefits questions. If you'd like a family member to help you through the claim check, that can often be arranged as well, with your consent.
The claim isn't tied to where you live or where you crashed. If it happened anywhere in NSW, the same statewide CTP scheme applies, and the claim goes to the CTP insurer of the relevant vehicle rather than to anyone in the town where it happened. You can manage it from home by phone, email and online. If the crash was over a state border, tell us, because another state's rules may apply.
