The NSW CTP scheme is there for people hurt in motor accidents, including in Keiraville. It pays statutory benefits to most injured people, and some can also claim damages. Knowing which applies to you, and what help you need, is where we come in. The claim check is free and there's no obligation. We point you to doctors and allied health, and to an independent CTP lawyer when a case genuinely calls for one.

Keiraville at a glance, for people after a car accident
Keiraville sits on the lower slopes of Mount Keira, west of the city centre, beside the University of Wollongong and the Wollongong Botanic Garden. Its streets are largely residential, with many students renting close to the campus. Mount Keira Road climbs from the suburb toward the Mount Keira lookout.
Whether you went to hospital from Keiraville or saw a GP the next day, the first medical record matters. Keep copies and make sure the crash is written down as the cause.
Wherever you are in Keiraville, help starts by phone and online. There's no office visit, and the claim check fits around your treatment and work.
Wollongong & the Illawarra: the wider area

Claim help for people in Keiraville, by topic
Most people start with the first group, because it deals with the claim: lodging it, fault, what it pays and what to do after a refusal. The other two groups suit people who are already weighing up legal help.

After the crash: seven practical steps
- Make the scene safe if you can. Switch on your warning lights, move out of traffic if it's safe to do so, and call 000 if anyone is hurt or trapped.
- A police report gives your claim an independent record of when and where the crash happened. Ask for the event number and file it with your other claim papers.
- Ask your doctor for a Certificate of Fitness. It records your injuries and what work you can manage, and the insurer relies on it.
- If the other vehicle drove off, note anything you can about it and tell police promptly. A claim against the Nominal Defendant may still be possible.
- Claim as soon as you can. Within 28 days, weekly payments can be back-paid. You can still claim up to 3 months after the accident, but payments may start later.
- Keep a folder for everything: certificates, receipts, letters from the insurer, time off work and travel to treatment. Good records make every later step easier.
- Ask for a free claim check, and we'll look at where your claim is up to and point you to doctors and allied health, an independent CTP lawyer, or both.
Time limits to know
The clock starts on the day of the crash. Lodge within 28 days if you can, so weekly payments can be back-paid. A claim made up to 3 months later is still possible, though payments may only begin on the date you claim. Damages claims generally have a 3-year limit; lodge by the 2-year mark if you want weekly payments to be able to run past it. As always, it's general information, not legal advice, so check your own dates. More on CTP claim time limits.
Getting the right treating team
Your recovery comes first, and it also drives the claim. A doctor who understands CTP can record your injuries properly on the Certificate of Fitness. Physiotherapy, psychology or exercise physiology may follow. Treatment that is reasonable and necessary is generally funded by the insurer within the benefit periods, though it decides each request.

Frequently asked questions
Most insurer decisions can be reviewed. You can generally ask for an internal review within 28 days of receiving the decision, and the insurer usually has 14 days to respond, or longer for some matters. If you still disagree, you can apply to the Personal Injury Commission. A refused claim is one of the situations where an independent CTP lawyer is often worth talking to.
In many cases, yes. If you're in hospital or finding it hard to manage, a partner, parent or adult child can start the conversation for you. We may need your consent before discussing your details, and the insurer will have its own rules about who it can speak to. For a child's claim, a parent or guardian usually acts for them.
No. The claim check is free and there's no obligation to take any next step. CTP Lawyer is a free NSW service, not a law firm. We look at where your claim is up to and explain the options in plain English. If you're connected with an independent CTP lawyer, any legal costs are between you and them, and should be set out in writing first.
Get medical care and tell your doctor the crash caused your injuries. Tell police and keep the event number handy. Swap details with the other driver, photograph everything and note any witnesses. Start a folder for receipts and certificates. Then lodge your CTP claim, aiming for 28 days. If anything feels uncertain, a free claim check can help you prioritise.
Three main kinds. Doctors experienced with CTP claims, for diagnosis and the Certificate of Fitness. Allied health, such as physiotherapy, psychology and exercise physiology, for treatment and recovery. And an independent lawyer experienced in CTP claims when the case calls for one, for example a refused claim, a threshold dispute or a damages claim. Many people only need the first two.
Often not. Many CTP claims for statutory benefits run without a lawyer. Legal help tends to matter when a claim is refused, the insurer says your injury is threshold and you disagree, payments stop, fault is disputed, an offer arrives or a damages claim may be open. SIRA's free CTP Legal Advisory Service can also help with some statutory benefits questions.
We're sorry for your loss. CTP insurance generally covers reasonable funeral expenses regardless of fault, including transporting the person to near their usual home. The deceased person's legal personal representative, usually a close family member, can apply. Dependants may also be able to claim. CTP Assist on 1300 656 919 can connect you with a Principal Liaison Coordinator for support.
No. You can start with our claim check by phone or online from anywhere in the Illawarra, and the claim itself is lodged through the Service NSW online form or with the insurer. A local GP can generally provide the Certificate of Fitness. If your case needs a lawyer, many work by phone and video, and some are based in Wollongong, so you can usually avoid the drive up Mount Ousley.
