Around Cabarita Beach: roads, hospitals and getting around
Cabarita Beach is a small coastal village on the Tweed Coast, between Kingscliff and Pottsville, with Norries Headland at the end of its beach. Tweed Coast Road runs through the village, and the M1 Pacific Motorway is a short drive west. Tweed Valley Hospital at Cudgen is about ten minutes north.
If the crash happened in a car park or outside a shopping centre in Cabarita Beach, record the exact spot and ask about footage early. Off-road locations like these are often still covered, but check.
If a crash has left you unable to drive, reaching treatment from Cabarita Beach may take more planning. Note any taxi or public transport costs from the start and ask the insurer about them.
Northern Rivers & Clarence: the wider area
Byron Bay, Ballina and the Tweed coast attract large numbers of visitors, and the Pacific Highway carries freight and holiday traffic between Sydney and Brisbane. Inland, the Bruxner Highway and Summerland Way link farming towns such as Casino and Kyogle, and many rural roads are narrow, winding and shared with farm vehicles, cyclists and wildlife.

What to do after a car accident in Cabarita Beach
- Check on everyone involved, yourself included. If anyone is injured, call 000 straight away and follow the operator's instructions until help arrives.
- Report the crash to police and write down the event number. The insurer will usually ask for it when you lodge a CTP claim.
- Ask your doctor for a Certificate of Fitness. It records your injuries and what work you can manage, and the insurer relies on it.
- If the other vehicle drove off, note anything you can about it and tell police promptly. A claim against the Nominal Defendant may still be possible.
- Work out which CTP insurer to claim with. It's usually the insurer of the vehicle at fault, and CTP Assist on 1300 656 919 can help you identify it.
- Keep a folder for everything: certificates, receipts, letters from the insurer, time off work and travel to treatment. Good records make every later step easier.
- Ask for a free claim check, and we'll look at where your claim is up to and point you to doctors and allied health, an independent CTP lawyer, or both.
Time limits to know
To have weekly payments back-paid to the day after the accident, the insurer generally needs your claim within 28 days. You can still claim up to 3 months after the accident, but payments may start from the date you claim. A common law damages claim must generally be made within 3 years, and within 2 years if you want weekly payments to continue beyond 2 years. Treat this as general information, not legal advice. More on CTP claim time limits.
Doctors and allied health
Your recovery comes first, and it also drives the claim. A doctor who understands CTP can record your injuries properly on the Certificate of Fitness. Physiotherapy, psychology or exercise physiology may follow. Treatment that is reasonable and necessary is generally funded by the insurer within the benefit periods, though it decides each request.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. CTP Assist, run by SIRA, can arrange an interpreter for your claim on 1300 656 919. It can also connect you with the free CTP Legal Advisory Service for statutory benefits questions. If you'd like a family member to help you through the claim check, that can often be arranged as well, with your consent.
Not at first, in most cases. If the crash is also a work injury, you generally need to claim workers compensation through your employer's insurer first. That is a different scheme from CTP, and CTP statutory benefits are generally not payable where workers compensation is available. You may still be able to claim damages from the at-fault driver's CTP insurer, so get advice. Commuting crashes depend on the facts. Tell us about the trip and we can point you to the right help.
Get medical care and tell your doctor the crash caused your injuries. Tell police and keep the event number handy. Swap details with the other driver, photograph everything and note any witnesses. Start a folder for receipts and certificates. Then lodge your CTP claim, aiming for 28 days. If anything feels uncertain, a free claim check can help you prioritise.
Yes. Treatment and the medical evidence it creates are central to most claims. We can point you to doctors experienced with CTP claims for diagnosis and the Certificate of Fitness, and to physiotherapy, psychology or exercise physiology. The insurer generally pays for treatment that is reasonable and necessary within the benefit periods, and it decides each request.
Generally, the NSW CTP scheme applies where the crash happened in NSW. If it happened in another state or territory, that place's own scheme usually applies instead, though the details can be complicated, so say where it happened. The date matters too. Accidents from 1 December 2017 fall under the Motor Accident Injuries Act 2017, and earlier ones under the 1999 Act.
We're sorry for your loss. CTP insurance generally covers reasonable funeral expenses regardless of fault, including transporting the person to near their usual home. The deceased person's legal personal representative, usually a close family member, can apply. Dependants may also be able to claim. CTP Assist on 1300 656 919 can connect you with a Principal Liaison Coordinator for support.
Three main kinds. Doctors experienced with CTP claims, for diagnosis and the Certificate of Fitness. Allied health, such as physiotherapy, psychology and exercise physiology, for treatment and recovery. And an independent lawyer experienced in CTP claims when the case calls for one, for example a refused claim, a threshold dispute or a damages claim. Many people only need the first two.
Usually not. CTP schemes are run by each state, and a crash in Queensland is generally handled under Queensland's scheme even if you live in NSW and your car is registered here. The claim process, forms and deadlines differ, so don't wait. Tell us exactly where it happened. If it was on the NSW side of the line, the NSW scheme applies and our claim check can help you start.
