Annandale at a glance, for people after a car accident
Annandale is bordered by Parramatta Road and the City West Link, giving it two of the busiest inner-west freight corridors at its doorstep. The suburb's residents commute mainly into the CBD and nearby hospitals, while Johnston Street acts as a secondary through-route. For Annandale residents, a CTP claim generally starts with statutory benefits for weekly payments and treatment costs; some people may later be able to claim common law damages as well.
Public transport such as the Inner West Light Rail and bus stops on Parramatta Road can make it easier to reach treatment if you can't drive after a crash. Keep receipts for travel to medical care and ask the insurer what it will consider.
Landmarks people know, such as the Annandale Hotel, Federal Park and the Bay Run, help police and insurers pin down where a crash happened. Mention one when you describe the location, along with the street name and time.
Inner West: the wider area
Parramatta Road cuts through the middle of the Inner West, and most suburbs are a short drive from it, from the City West Link, or from Victoria Road over the Iron Cove Bridge. Streets are narrow and often lined with parked cars, and shopping strips such as King Street in Newtown, Marrickville Road and Norton Street in Leichhardt are busy with people on foot and on bikes.

After the crash: seven practical steps
- Make the scene safe if you can. Switch on your warning lights, move out of traffic if it's safe to do so, and call 000 if anyone is hurt or trapped.
- A police report gives your claim an independent record of when and where the crash happened. Ask for the event number and file it with your other claim papers.
- See a GP or go to hospital as soon as you can, and say the injuries came from a motor accident so it's written down as the cause.
- If the other vehicle drove off, note anything you can about it and tell police promptly. A claim against the Nominal Defendant may still be possible.
- Lodge your claim through the Service NSW online form or with the insurer. Aim for 28 days so weekly payments can be back-paid to the day after the crash.
- Keep copies of every form you send and every letter you receive. Note the dates, because review deadlines, often 28 days, run from when you get a decision.
- Ask for a free claim check, and we'll look at where your claim is up to and point you to doctors and allied health, an independent CTP lawyer, or both.
Key CTP deadlines
To have weekly payments back-paid to the day after the accident, the insurer generally needs your claim within 28 days. You can still claim up to 3 months after the accident, but payments may start from the date you claim. A common law damages claim must generally be made within 3 years, and within 2 years if you want weekly payments to continue beyond 2 years. Treat this as general information, not legal advice. More on CTP claim time limits.
Doctors and allied health
Treatment and your claim are closely linked. Your GP completes the Certificate of Fitness, which the insurer relies on, and your treating team's notes become the medical evidence. If you'd like help finding a doctor who knows CTP paperwork, or physiotherapy, psychology or exercise physiology, ask us. The insurer decides what it funds, and decisions can be reviewed.

Frequently asked questions
We're sorry for your loss. CTP insurance generally covers reasonable funeral expenses regardless of fault, including transporting the person to near their usual home. The deceased person's legal personal representative, usually a close family member, can apply. Dependants may also be able to claim. CTP Assist on 1300 656 919 can connect you with a Principal Liaison Coordinator for support.
Three main kinds. Doctors experienced with CTP claims, for diagnosis and the Certificate of Fitness. Allied health, such as physiotherapy, psychology and exercise physiology, for treatment and recovery. And an independent lawyer experienced in CTP claims when the case calls for one, for example a refused claim, a threshold dispute or a damages claim. Many people only need the first two.
No, and you don't need one. The claim check happens by phone and online, so people in Annandale get the same help as anyone else in NSW without travelling. If an independent CTP lawyer would help with your claim, the lawyer you speak with can generally work with you by phone, email and video as well.
Often not. Many CTP claims for statutory benefits run without a lawyer. Legal help tends to matter when a claim is refused, the insurer says your injury is threshold and you disagree, payments stop, fault is disputed, an offer arrives or a damages claim may be open. SIRA's free CTP Legal Advisory Service can also help with some statutory benefits questions.
Not from us. The claim check is free whatever you decide. If you choose to work with an independent CTP lawyer, legal costs in CTP claims are regulated, and for some disputes they can't be recovered at all. Many motor accident lawyers offer no win, no fee arrangements. Ask for a written costs disclosure before you agree to anything.
Yes. Treatment and the medical evidence it creates are central to most claims. We can point you to doctors experienced with CTP claims for diagnosis and the Certificate of Fitness, and to physiotherapy, psychology or exercise physiology. The insurer generally pays for treatment that is reasonable and necessary within the benefit periods, and it decides each request.
Most insurer decisions can be reviewed. You can generally ask for an internal review within 28 days of receiving the decision, and the insurer usually has 14 days to respond, or longer for some matters. If you still disagree, you can apply to the Personal Injury Commission. A refused claim is one of the situations where an independent CTP lawyer is often worth talking to.
Not for the claim itself. NSW has one CTP scheme, so the suburb or council area doesn't change your entitlements or the time limits. What matters is when the crash happened, which vehicles were involved and how you were hurt. On the claim form and in any police report, describe the location as precisely as you can, such as the nearest cross street, so everyone is talking about the same place.
