After a crash in Huntleys Cove: the local picture
Huntleys Cove is a small waterside pocket in Northern Sydney between Henley and Hunters Hill, where Victoria Road's heavy traffic runs close by toward Gladesville. If a CTP insurer's decision doesn't seem right to you (a denied claim, stopped payments or a 'threshold injury' label), you can generally ask for an internal review, and people in Huntleys Cove can talk it through with us by phone first.
If it would be easier to talk in a language other than English, CTP Assist can set up an interpreter for your claim, wherever you live in or near Huntleys Cove. Its number is 1300 656 919.
Council matters in Huntleys Cove sit with Hunter's Hill Council. That can be useful if a crash involved roadworks or a council vehicle, though the CTP claim itself goes to an insurer.
Lower North Shore & Ryde: the wider area
North Sydney, Chatswood, St Leonards and Macquarie Park are major employment centres, and Royal North Shore Hospital at St Leonards is the area's main public hospital. The Pacific Highway, the Warringah Freeway, Epping Road and the M2 carry heavy traffic through the middle, and Military Road is the main route to Mosman and the Spit Bridge.

After the crash: seven practical steps
- Make the scene safe if you can. Switch on your warning lights, move out of traffic if it's safe to do so, and call 000 if anyone is hurt or trapped.
- A police report gives your claim an independent record of when and where the crash happened. Ask for the event number and file it with your other claim papers.
- Ask your doctor for a Certificate of Fitness. It records your injuries and what work you can manage, and the insurer relies on it.
- Swap details with the other driver: name, phone number, address, licence number and registration. Photograph the vehicles, the scene and any visible injuries.
- Lodge your claim through the Service NSW online form or with the insurer. Aim for 28 days so weekly payments can be back-paid to the day after the crash.
- Keep copies of every form you send and every letter you receive. Note the dates, because review deadlines, often 28 days, run from when you get a decision.
- Not sure whether you need a lawyer? A free claim check helps you decide. Many claims don't need one, and we'll say so if yours doesn't.
Key CTP deadlines
The clock starts on the day of the crash. Lodge within 28 days if you can, so weekly payments can be back-paid. A claim made up to 3 months later is still possible, though payments may only begin on the date you claim. Damages claims generally have a 3-year limit; lodge by the 2-year mark if you want weekly payments to be able to run past it. As always, it's general information, not legal advice, so check your own dates. More on CTP claim time limits.
Doctors and allied health
Your recovery comes first, and it also drives the claim. A doctor who understands CTP can record your injuries properly on the Certificate of Fitness. Physiotherapy, psychology or exercise physiology may follow. Treatment that is reasonable and necessary is generally funded by the insurer within the benefit periods, though it decides each request.

Frequently asked questions
Not from us. The claim check is free whatever you decide. If you choose to work with an independent CTP lawyer, legal costs in CTP claims are regulated, and for some disputes they can't be recovered at all. Many motor accident lawyers offer no win, no fee arrangements. Ask for a written costs disclosure before you agree to anything.
No. The claim check is free and there's no obligation to take any next step. CTP Lawyer is a free NSW service, not a law firm. We look at where your claim is up to and explain the options in plain English. If you're connected with an independent CTP lawyer, any legal costs are between you and them, and should be set out in writing first.
No, and you don't need one. The claim check happens by phone and online, so people in Huntleys Cove get the same help as anyone else in NSW without travelling. If an independent CTP lawyer would help with your claim, the lawyer you speak with can generally work with you by phone, email and video as well.
We're sorry for your loss. CTP insurance generally covers reasonable funeral expenses regardless of fault, including transporting the person to near their usual home. The deceased person's legal personal representative, usually a close family member, can apply. Dependants may also be able to claim. CTP Assist on 1300 656 919 can connect you with a Principal Liaison Coordinator for support.
Often not. Many CTP claims for statutory benefits run without a lawyer. Legal help tends to matter when a claim is refused, the insurer says your injury is threshold and you disagree, payments stop, fault is disputed, an offer arrives or a damages claim may be open. SIRA's free CTP Legal Advisory Service can also help with some statutory benefits questions.
The sooner the better. The insurer generally needs your claim within 28 days for weekly payments to be back-paid to the day after the accident. Claims made later, up to 3 months after the accident, are still possible, but payments may then start from the claim date. Common law damages claims generally have to be made within 3 years. Your own dates may differ, so check them early.
Get medical care and tell your doctor the crash caused your injuries. Tell police and keep the event number handy. Swap details with the other driver, photograph everything and note any witnesses. Start a folder for receipts and certificates. Then lodge your CTP claim, aiming for 28 days. If anything feels uncertain, a free claim check can help you prioritise.
Generally, yes. The NSW CTP scheme covers people injured in motor accidents in NSW, and it isn't limited to Australian citizens or permanent residents. What you can claim depends on your injuries and circumstances, including whether you were working before the crash. See a doctor, keep the Certificate of Fitness and your receipts, note the other driver's details and any police event number, and lodge within 28 days if you can.
